{"id":26,"date":"2008-10-27T07:40:35","date_gmt":"2008-10-27T14:40:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.cynthialawson.com\/blog\/?p=26"},"modified":"2008-10-27T07:40:35","modified_gmt":"2008-10-27T14:40:35","slug":"best-paper-award","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.cynthialawson.com\/site\/?p=26","title":{"rendered":"Best Paper award"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I just learned that my paper \u201cThe New School, CARE &amp; Ajkem\u2019a Loy\u2019a: A case study in learning in intensive and immersive global programs and in cross-cultural and bilingual collaborative work\u201d presented at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.glide08.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">GLIDE &#8217;08<\/a> was selected by conference attendees as the best paper of the conference.<\/p>\n<p>Quite a nice boost to start off another busy week of writing, making, and teaching!<\/p>\n<p>This is the abstract (full paper is available upon request):\u00a0 <em>This paper addresses the challenges and opportunities, and suggests best practices in collaborations across year-levels, programs and divisions of a university; in external partnerships between a university and a large non-profit organization; in teaching and learning in intensive and immersive global programs; and in cross-cultural and bilingual collaborative work.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>During the month of June 2008, 14 students, 2 faculty, and 1 project coordinator from The New School (TNS) lived and worked in the small lake-side village of San Lucas Tolim\u00e1n, Guatemala, to collaborate with a group of Mayan artisan women, Ajkem\u2019a Loy\u2019a (AL.)
