New Photography: Commuters

Artwork — May 17, 2009 @ 6:46 pm

I am fascinated by airports. My consistent interest in time & space has led me to develop this series, Commuters. I am drawn to places that are inherently temporal – that is to say, places in which we never lose our sense of time. We are either waiting for a plan to arrive, or a flight to be assigned to a gate, or for our train to leave, or, in my case, hoping that it will be further delayed so I can capture even more of these anonymous and quotidian, but for many anxiety-ridden, moments.

Let me know what you think!

Open Studios – May 16 & 17, 12-6pm

Exhibitions — May 10, 2009 @ 3:23 pm

On May 16th and 17th Madarts (where I have my studio) ends six months of darkness and goes public with their Spring Open Studio Tour – an invitation into the South Slope warehouse-turned-art-shop that happens only twice a year. The tour includes over 40 artists’ paintings, drawings, sculpture, photography, film and video. The hours are noon to 6pm on Saturday and Sunday at the Madarts Building, 255 18th Street at 5th Avenue in Brooklyn. The crew puts on a solid, no frills art show in a gloriously makeshift and perfectly makeshift DIY warehouse space. The tour offers a peek into the private art studios where artists host individual receptions for their newest bodies of work.
